The prestigious week-long child enrolment drive, 'Badi-Bata', started across the district on Monday.

The objective was to identify children above five years of age and also those in the age group of six to 14 years who had dropped out of schools and enrol them in schools. Other objectives include, school quality and school improvement programmes, 100% transition of school-going children, ensuing water, sanitation and hygiene in all schools and planning of special training centers for children of migrant families.

The Badi Bata programme is being observed as festival of colours in the villages with senior students going house-to-house to attract the children to the schools. The teachers of several government schools have intensified student enrolment drive by undertaking door-to-door campaign in Mahabubabad district.

Colourful handouts

The teachers of the Zilla Parishad High School at Kambalapally in Mahabubabad mandal have put up colourful handouts in the village highlighting the striking features of the State-run school — free education, mid-day meals, books, and uniforms, among other benefits.

District Educational Officer S.Srinivasa Chary said: “We have set a target of increasing the enrolment of students into government schools by at least 5 % through Badi bata in the district.” He also directed the head masters, teachers to make door-to-door visits and identify out-of- school children in all the villages in the district.

A headmaster, M.Srinivasulu, said: “We conduct Badibata programme every summer to increase enrolments in government schools. We directly interact with parents to convince them to join their children in our school.”

All facilities

A senior teacher, V.Gurunadha Rao, said Government has been making all efforts to extend best facilities to the students in the newly formed state. “We are doing our level best to create confidence among public on government schools and increase the strength of students.” He said that in our school the background of bright students was analysed by the teachers based on which they were given personalised attention and special coaching after school hours.
