Web-based scribes held for extortion

Two reporters from a web-based news channel who extorted ₹80,000 from a jewellery shop owner after threatening him were arrested by Hussainialam police here on Saturday .

The accused were identified as Syed Arshad and Mohd Ali baba, both working for a web-based crime news channel in Banjara Hills as crime reporters.

“On Thursday, these reporters collected ₹80,000 from Mohammed Salauddin, a jewellery shop owner in Khilawath threatening to report to the Income tax department that he was running the business without licence,” the police said.

The victim got frighted and agreed to pay the sum. “After learning that he was cheated, Salauddin registered a case,”they said.
