We will take legal recourse: KCR

July 12, 2014 12:46 am | Updated May 24, 2016 03:17 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Telangana Chief Minsiter K. Chandrashekar Rao said the passing of the AP Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill in Lok Sabha as an act of ‘violation of Article 3 of the Constitution’. His government would now take recourse to legal action and the Government has already begun contacting legal luminaries and constitutional experts in this regard.

The Bill transfers seven mandals in Khammam district to Andhra Pradesh, an issue that is being vociferously opposed by the ruling TRS.

In a strongly worded statement issued by the CMO here on Friday, Mr Rao described NDA government’s decision as “unfortunate and undemocratic”. “It was unethical on the part of Centre to pass the Bill just because it enjoyed a majority in the Lok Sabha”. He said the consent of Telangana should have been obtained before the Bill was introduced. The ruling party ignored the objections raised by the TRS MPs. He had also requested the Union government and the President to change the Polavaram design. The Chief Minister said that the MLAs and MPs of BJP and TDP should have opposed the ordinance in Parliament.

Meanwhile, sources said the government was in touch with a senior Supreme Court advocate Andyarjuna in preparing the draft suit raising inter-State dispute.

They added that an independent writ petition by TRS MP A. Sitaram Naik was also being filed against the Centre for violation of fundamental rights, in this case tribal people who will be dislocated by the Polavaram project. Legal experts assured the government that it had a case because alteration of boundaries of State could not take place without hearing the views of its Assembly as per Article 3 of the Constitution.
