The sudden downpour on Wednesday evening left several streets under sheets of water and affected traffic movement in the city.
The GHMC authorities claimed that there were no complaints of water-logging or collapsing of tree branches. But, the traffic personnel had a tough time clearing traffic at several areas due to water stagnation. Vehicles moved at a snail’s pace as the drizzle continued till late in the evening.
Employees and students on their way back home were caught unawares, as arterial roads, streets, including Raj Bhavan Road, Ameerpet, Imax circle and Domalguda were covered under rain water.
The situation was no different in the Old City as residents had to walk in ankle-deep water at Gulzar Houz, Talabkatta, Chandrayangutta, Hafeezbaba Nagar and Kishanbagh.
The Met authorities said the capital received 9 mm rainfall up to 5.30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Met department said that there could be thundershowers or heavy rains in a few areas on Thursday in the capital and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 28 and 22 degree Celsius respectively.
