Water supply to be affected on April 4

April 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated April 02, 2016 03:04 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

About 180 million gallons per day (MGD), more than half of the daily drinking water needs of the city, will not be supplied on April 4 owing to Krishna Phase III works.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) will shut down Krishna Phase 1 and 2 sources to interconnect Phase 3 of the project to bring an additional 45 MGD of water.

“We only need about 14 to 15 hours to finish the work, but as a precautionary measure, we are shutting the supply for 24 hours. I am confident that it will be completed within the time frame,” said M. Jagadeeshwar, Managing Director, HMWSSB, at a press conference here on Tuesday.

He further mentioned that once the work was completed, the additional water from the Krishna phase-3 project would bring in some relief to the city. Mr. Jagadeeshwar stated that a Central Monitoring Committee comprising the Executive Director, Director (technical) and Director (revenue) will supervise the shutdown operations throughout the day, till the works were completed.

“For the first time in the last eight years, additional water will be added to the daily supply of 340 MGD to the city,” he mentioned.

The additional supply from the Krishna phase-3 project will provide relief to the core areas in Hyderabad, said Mr. Jagadeeshwar, further stating that the total demand, both domestic and commercial together was about 732 MGD. “Under the Krishna phase-3 project, 45 MGD will be brought in now, and another 45 MGD in the coming months,” he stated.
