The intermittent rainfall is turning into a nightmare for patients and their attendants at the Government Nizamia General Hospital near Charminar. Thanks to the water leakage, patients have been spending anxious moments for the last couple of days.
A huge quantity of water has accumulated in the paid rooms, in-patient pharmacy, medicine godown, children’s ward, female ward and the maternity ward.
“We have shifted children to a different ward and also removed the medicines from the godown to avoid further damage,” Mohammed Rafi Ahmed, Hospital Superintendent said.
Restoration work
Hospital authorities said the water that accumulated on the terrace started seeping into the rooms. The roof of the top floor was chiselled as part of the restoration and repair works being undertaken. However, only one round of plastering was done, and the work was stopped due to the rains. As a result, water stagnated on the roof started leaking into the wards.
As a precautionary measure, a few patients were discharged after giving them necessary advice and medicines.
“We have asked patients under observation to come after the rains subside as there is no proper accommodation,” a hospital official informed.
