Water Board engineers take up repair work
An old water pipeline running from Autonagar to Chilkanagar burst late on Saturday night near Uppal RTA causing huge amount of water to gush out.
The 1000 mm diameter PVC pipeline laid during the 70s broke at the bottom around 2 a.m.
Water Board engineers rushed to the spot in the night itself and took up repair work.
As a first measure, the Sahebnagar reservoir was closed so as to stop further leakage of water.
The damaged pipeline was being replaced with a six meter long new MS (mild steel) pipeline, which is more stronger and durable.
No water supply
The work was expected to be completed by Sunday midnight. As a result scores of households in Kapra and Uppal areas did not get any water on Sunday.
The burst line earlier used to carry Manjira water from Maula Ali reservoir to Autonagar.
Now the same pipeline carries the Krishna water in the reverse direction from Sahebnagar-Nagole to Uppal.
The pipeline, which is in the downward direction, got burst under pressure as the Autonagar reservoir reached its full level.
“It is a clear case of lack of supervision”, a senior official remarked.
