Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has announced a partial reduction in the new enhanced rates for engaging water tankers by ₹ 50 to ₹ 150 per tanker.

The new rates will be effective from September 1, the Board Managing Director M. Dana Kishore stated in an official release. He said that following an ‘uproar’ among different sections of the people about the hiked rates and on the suggestion of Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao, it was decided to scale down the rates even if it meant a loss.

He also claimed that the revision would not affect the common man as the water supplied through the tankers was only a miniscule percentage of the total supplies which had improved after the Krishna and Godavari augmentation phases.
