Water Board gets record collection

March 31, 2014 11:35 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 06:29 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has collected a record amount of Rs.160 crore in the month of March from a total of 4,50,690 consumers, a press release from the Board informed on Monday. The contribution of tariff revision for commercial and industrial consumers is only Rs. 20 crore.

Total collection this year is Rs. 773.73 crore against a demand of Rs.734.32 crore, indicating 105 per cent collection. In contrast, total collection last year was Rs.645.09 crore against a demand of Rs.759 crore — a collection of 85 per cent, the note said.

GPS-enabled billing

This is an achievement because the Board had started at Rs.51 crore per month about one-and-a-half years ago. Paid consumers per month too increased from 3,84,499 to 4,50,690 during this year, it said.

The Board attributed the increased collection to various measures including monitoring of the delivery of bills to the consumers’ premises through GPS enabled billing and collection devices, better monitoring, red notices served to 5,831 consumers and strict implementation.
