Warangal to host AIAWU meet from July 30

The All India Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU) will hold its eighth conference from July 30 to August 2 at Warangal. Various agrarian issues, including land distribution, implementation of the Food Security Act, housing, health care and farm labour wages, will come up for discussion. Resolutions will be adopted on these issues and a call given to launch struggle for achieving the demands, AIAWU president P. Ramaiah said on Thursday.

He told reporters that Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar would address a rally on July 30 and also attend a public meeting. The conference area was being named Comrade P. Sundaraiah Nagar after the communist leader who championed the cause of the rural poor. About 1,000 delegates from 16 States were expected to attend the conference.

AIAWU general secretary (Telangana) B. Venkatesh welcomed the decision of the Telangana government to allot three acres of land to Dalit families and wanted the same benefit to be extended to STs, BCs and minorities.
