Mayor N. Narender on Wednesday went on an inspection spree of drains in the city to take stock of the preparedness for monsoon season here.
Going by the past experiences, Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) decided to leave no stone unturned this time to avoid overflowing of drains, inundation of colonies and rescue of people in distress.
Last year about 50 colonies were inundated with flood waters and people had tough time dealing with the incessant rains. The Mayor wanted the officials to remove all the encroachments on important drains, desilt them and carry out repairs forthwith.
Speaking to The Hindu , he said that ₹ 1.27 crore were earmarked to meet exigencies of floods during rainy season.
“We are taking up works on Bondivagu nala, Bhadrakali Bund, Kothawada nala and other drains. We ordered the officials engaged in execution of work to maintain a log book and videograph the work for transparency and ensure quality. The local corporator will be responsible for speedy and efficient work in their respective localities,” he said.
Deputy Engineer Ravinder said 90% of encroachments on drains were demolished and rest would be completed at the earliest.
