Communist Party of India (Marxist) politburo member B.V. Raghavulu has said that the reasons cited by Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu in rejecting the impeachment motion against the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra were not proper.

Mr. Raghavulu said the Vice President should have allowed the motion to be tabled so that Parliament would debate on the issue and reach a conclusion. “Why has he backed out? Where is the need to reject the notice?” he asked. Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Mr. Raghavulu criticised the BJP-led central government for backing out from the debate on the no-confidence motion tabled in the Lok Sabha during the recent budget session of Parliament.

He took exception to the BJP leaders’ criticism of the party’s just concluded 22nd national congress and said the criticism reflected the potential of the Left and the success of the CPI (M)’s national meet.

Replying to queries, he said the newly elected central committee of the party had representation of all sections and it had been elected after a self critical analysis of the organisational structure.

CPI (M) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram said the party had failed to attract the youth over the last one decade owing to various reasons including the agitations for separate State. The failures of the BJP-led central government and the TRS government at the State level in fulfilling their promises, however, made the youth look for an alternative.

The CPI (M) had decided to reach out to the people in all villages through its alternative policies under the banner of Bahujan Left Front in the coming three months for strengthening the party organisation from the grassroots level. The party’s state committee meeting slated in the month-end would finalise an action plan accordingly and the leaders would branch out to every village in the coming days.
