An intermediate student from Kannepalli mandal headquarters in Mancherial district became the third person to die reportedly due to viral fever, which claimed two lives on Saturday.

Vanaja of Naikapurguda locality was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Karimnagar where she breathed her last on Sunday.

A medical camp organised at Kannepalli is manned by two doctors in addition to Mancherial District Medical and Health Officer (DHMO) A. Bhishma and Deputy DMHO Vijaya Purnima. Mr. Bhishma told The Hindu that 24 persons with viral fever symptoms have been identified and are being treated. Of them, one is serious and has been shifted to Mancherial for further treatment.

Officials identified the cause of the fever as mosquitoes breeding in stagnated water caused by a leakage in the water supply pipeline in the colony. The camp will continue till about a week until the situation comes under control, the DMHO said.
