Vanitha TV here won in three categories of the 11 UNICEF Awards for Children-Related programmes, for best discussion, documentary and for the highest commitment at a function held here on Tuesday.

The other awards were for other categories like inspiring story, effective communication, gender-sensitive campaign, discussions etc, which were bagged by NTV, ETV Andhra Pradesh, TNews, TV9, Gemini News, iNews, V6 News and 10TV. The awards were given to the channels at a ceremony held by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Centre for Media Studies (CMS) here on Tuesday.

The jury, which analysed 7,600 hours and 2,578 programmes of content from 19 news and non-news channels during prime-time over 100 days, presented 11 awards to various channels. “The programmes, which were aired between 6.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m., comprised 2.5 per cent of total air-time among the channels, which has gone up from the 0.4 per cent from the first year when the awards were given,” said P. N. Vasanti, director, CMS.

Ruth Leana, Chief Field UNICEF Office for Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, said that the quantity of reporting among the Telugu media has increased. P. V. R. K. Prasad, former IAS officer, was the jury’s chairperson, and other members were present at the event.
