Former Union Minister and author Arun Shourie’s new book Two Saints: Speculations Around and About Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Ramana Maharishi was launched by former Governor of Reserve Bank of India Y.V. Reddy at Vidyaranya School in the city on Saturday evening. At an event organised by Manthan, Mr. Reddy spoke about how spirituality was part of our life from an early age where children are asked to learn O, Na, Ma.
Scientific explanation
“This book doesn’t try to demystify the mysticism of Ramana Maharshi and Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. It tries to understand how neuroscientists would have explained their lives and their peripheral experiences. We accept mysticism easily without trying to find a scientific explanation. I have tried to see how science can explain certain phenomenon,” said Mr. Shourie.
“The two saints brought solace to millions. Ramana Maharshi acted like a therapist. Today’s sadus and babas are traders dealing with cosmetics and food products. They are destroying our tradition of looking inwards. We should hold these modern babas accountable to the highest standards set by Ramana Maharshi and Ramakrishna Paramahamsa,” said Mr. Shourie, taking potshots at a few yoga masters and spiritual leaders.
