Adviser to the Telangana Government on Minorities Welfare A. K. Khan on Wednesday said that plans are afoot to fill up the SC and ST posts of Urdu teachers which have been lying vacant for several years.

Addressing the media at the Urdu Academy, Mr. Khan said that 22.5 per cent of vacancies are reserved under the SC and SC category. He said that the Telangana Government has made provisions to fill up Urdu teacher vacancies under the Teacher Recruitment Test.

The government will issue notifications twice and when there is no response, recruitments will be ‘opened up’ and candidates under the general category will be recruited. “The lack of teachers is being addressed under the Vidya Volunteer schemes,” Mr. Khan said. The Telangana government would soon decide how many volunteers are required before the academic year 2018-19. Urdu Academy will emulate the digital classroom model as found in Telugu medium schools.

Mr. Khan said that lesson plans will soon be developed in the audio-visual format and implemented on a pilot project basis in a few of the over 1,600 Urdu medium schools in the State.

Giving a fillip to Urdu as a second language, Mr. Khan said that letters have been addressed to the General Administration Department and the Official Languages Commission. Plans are underway to have Urdu on signboards of various departments.

The adviser also informed that the Urdu Academy will also design a Telugu to Urdu and Urdu to Telugu dictionary.
