UoH student polls held, results today

Electoral campaigns, mostly on Facebook, had focused less on issues directly related to students and instead on matters more ideological

October 31, 2013 01:04 am | Updated November 17, 2021 12:14 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The social media turned electoral battleground as various student bodies of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) tried wooing its 4,168-strong electorate for the student body polls that were held on Wednesday. In a four-cornered contest that saw students getting divided on region, caste and ideology, the campaign in the last one week focused less on issues directly related to students and instead on matters more ideological. More than posters, contestants used Facebook as their main campaign platform. Controversy over the transfer of university land to ‘outsiders’ and the enhancement of student fellowship to Rs.1,000 a month, were among the major issues.

The results are expected on Thursday evening.
