A student of the University of Hyderabad attempted suicide by jumping from third floor of his hostel building on the university campus here after Monday midnight, the police said.

Twenty-year-old Birbal Koizora Debbarma suffered fractures on his legs and head. He was being treated at a corporate hospital in Gachibowli. “Doctors said he was out of danger and recuperating,” Madhapur DCP Vishwa Prasad said on Tuesday.

Birbal, hailing from Tripura, was in second year of five-year integrated course in Language Sciences. Around 12.30 a.m. on Tuesday, he jumped out of his room's window in ‘L’ hostel building. The window had no grill.

“He fell on the cycle stand. On hearing the sound, occupants of the hostel came out and saw him with multiple fractures,” a statement from the UoH said. He was first taken to the medical room on the university campus and then shifted to a corporate hospital.

Reasons for his suicide attempt were yet to be ascertained, the police said.
