A fresh spell of unseasonal rains hit the city in the wee hours of Monday with gusty winds resulting in some loss of greenery. According to the municipal officials, about 30 trees fell in Chikkadpally, Narayanaguda and other areas. In Red Hills, the strong winds led to two large trees falling on the main road blocking the roads.
Heavy downpour was witnessed in several areas in the city which lasted for a couple of hours. In the last 36 hours ending 2 p.m. on Monday, the recorded rainfall in Begumpet was 6.13 cm whereas it was 5 cm in Golkonda. The city outskirts too received a good amount of rainfall with Medchal recording 3 cm and Chevella recording 4 cm.
The maximum temperatures dropped drastically by about five degree Centigrade due to the sudden change in weather conditions. According to the Met Department officials, the max temperature is expected to be around 30 C for the next 48 hours. Heavy rains and hailstorms might occur in all the districts of Telangana in the next two days, according to the weathermen.
The municipal and electricity officials also received complaints regarding water stagnation at various points in the city. Due to water logging and deteriorated road conditions, traffic was adversely affected on major roads. Rain water got stagnated, in and around the houses at Allamthota Bavi, Mayur Marg, and Begumpet, causing inconvenience to road users. Power supply got snapped in several localities from late Sunday night and was not restored till Monday afternoon.
