A couple who were arrested in West Bengal in connection with the abduction of a two-and-a-half year-old boy from the city were produced before a local court here.
Aakash, son of goldsmith Gopal Maji of Rikabgunj area under Charminar police station limits, was abducted on November 2.
The accused – Ramprasad Mistry and Priyanka Halder, both natives of 24 Parganas South district – were nabbed by a special team of Hyderabad police on November 9 from Dumki village and Aakash was rescued.
Ramprasad had demanded 3-kg of gold as ransom for the boy’s release.
During interrogation, Ramprasad confessed that he had earlier worked as a goldsmith at Gopal’s workshop.
Ramprasad took the boy out of the house on pretext of buying firecrackers and later took him to West Bengal.
The accused duo, who were brought on a transit warrant to Hyderabad, were produced before the court and booked for the commission of offence of kidnap for ransom and wrongfully confining the boy.
