Two women end lives over dowry harassment

September 27, 2013 10:28 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 09:17 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Two women committed suicide in separate incidents as they were unable to bear the alleged harassment meted out to them by their husbands and in-laws in the name of dowry.

R. Sunitha (35), who attempted suicide by setting herself afire at her house in Bodduppal on September 3, died while undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital on Friday. Her husband Naveen Kumar had been pressurising her parents to transfer a plot of land in his name.

Although she tried to pacify Kumar, he would continue to torture her. Unable to cope with the increasing harassment, she took the drastic step.

In a similar incident, Y. Vijaya (31) hanged herself at her house in Kukatpally on Thursday, allegedly due to harassment by her husband Srinivas and in-laws.
