Sitting MLAs Afsar Khan and Virasat Rasool Khan dropped
The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) sprang a surprise by inducting two new faces for the coming Assembly polls.
Kauser Mohiuddin and Jafar Hussain Meraj are candidates named for Karwan and Nampally constituencies in Hyderabad respectively. They will replace sitting MLAs -- Afsar Khan and Virasat Rasool Khan.
While Mr. Meraj is a former deputy Mayor, Mr. Mohiuddin is the husband of party’s Nanalnagar corporator Najma Sultana. The Majlis decided to give tickets to the existing MLAs in five constituencies -- Syed Ahmed Pasha Qaurdri (Charminar), Akbaruddin Owaisi (Chandrayangutta), Mumtaz Ahmed Khan (Yakutpura), Mohd. Mauzam Khan (Bahadurpura) and Ahmed Bin Abdulla Balala (Malakpet).
In a first, Majlis president Asaduddin Owaisi announced the names of the candidates at a crowded meeting of the presidents and secretaries of party’s primary units held at Darussalm here on Monday. Sources said the party chose not to give ticket to Mr. Afsar on account of his poor health while Mr. Virasat was dropped in view of the tough contest in Nampally segment this time.
