Two passengers of a Sports Utility Vehicle died while three sustained critical injuries when it rammed a stationary mini lorry on roadside on the outskirts of Beechupalli in Gadwal Jogulamba district, nearly 170 km from here, on Saturday.

The victims were identified G. Hanumanthu of Mahbubnagar and M. Ratnam of Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh. Another person, Prabhudas, and two women -- Shyamala and Laxmidevi -- suffered serious wounds. They were admitted in a nearby hospital.

“The accident occurred around 6.30 a.m.when the SUV heading from Hyderabad to Erravalli crashed into the mini lorry parked on roadside,” Gadwal DSP A. Balakoti said. The mini lorry’s parking lights were not on and apparently the SUV driver failed to notice the vehicle in the front since it was still dark at that time,” the police said.
