A man who was earlier accused of killing eight women and then escaping from the Institute of Mental Sciences was again arrested by the police on charges of killing another five women.
Police said, Ravi, alias Ramulu, who hails from Jagitial of Karimnagar district, and was arrested by the Cyberabad police in 2009, but later escaped in 2011.
His accomplice Methari Bala Narsimha, 32, of Tandoor in Ranga Reddy, was also arrested and police recovered two pairs of gold ear rings, 40 tolas of silver anklets and a mobile phone, which they allegedly were taken from the five women victims. Police said the duo used to lure women, made them drink toddy and once inebriated, took them to isolated places and strangled them.
Police said Ravi was earlier arrested on charges of killing eight women and a man. Police maintained that he was a habitual criminal who came in contact with hardcore life convicts.
In December 2011, Ravi along with Narasaiah, Afroz Khan, Griraj Singh Vaghela, Yadagiri and Lachaiah, got admitted to Institute of Mental Health in Erragadda, from where they escaped on the night of December 30, 2011.
After the escape, Ramulu continued to lure women to toddy compounds and eventually murdered two women in Chandanagar area between April and May 2012. With the help of the evidence, a mineral water bottle and cash bill, collected from the scene of offence, the Bowenpally police managed to nab the accused. The police said that the accused, during interrogation, confessed to have committed offences.
