Early in Friday, unidentified protestors burnt two buses, one on hire to the A.P. State Road Transport Corporate and a private vehicle, at Sangareddy district headquarters following comments by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on the Bayyaram mine lands.
In two separate incidents the private bus was burnt near the District Collectorate and the APSRTC bus at Mahboobsagar tank.
A bandh is being observed across the district and Telangana Rashtra Samithi cadres are blocakding bus depots. TRS legislator T. Harish Rao, former MLAs M. Padma Devender Reddy and S. Ramalinga Reddy were arrested at Siddipet, Ramayampet and Dubbak respectively.
According to sources, about 400 TRS activists were arrested by the police by 10 am on Friday morning. Activists were taken to police stations at respective areas and some of the activists reportedly continued their agitation there.
A heavy police force was mobilised to prevent any untoward incident.
However, the impact of the band at Sangareddy, where Government Whip T. Jayaprakash Reddy announced that the Congress workers would prevent any effort to observe bandh, was significantly less. Buses were run as usual and many of shops were opened by 10 a.m. Some of the Congress workers who were opposing bandh were also arrested by the police.
