A case was registered by the Uppal police against two persons running a home for the elderly for reportedly harassing and abusing a 17-year-old working there. A police official said that a woman named Naomi and her son Ruben were booked under the Child Care and protection Act based on a complaint by the girl, who has been working at the Ruby Old Age home for the last two years.
However, the Balala Hakkula Sangham in a press note claimed that the place was also an orphanage where children were being abused. It demanded that the old age home be shut down.
Curbs on wine shops
Hyderabad City Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy ordered wine/toddy shops, bars attached to restaurants and military canteens situated in the city limits to be closed from 6 p.m. on Tuesday to 6 p.m. on March 9 and again from 6 a.m. on March 20 till the completion of counting in connection with elections to the Telangana Legislative Council in the Teacher’s constituencies.
‘Pay traffic challans’
The Hyderabad Traffic police will conduct a special drive from March 13 till April 7 to crack the whip against those not paying their pending e-challans and ignoring legal notices sent to them for traffic violations. The public has been requested to immediately pay their e-challn dues on the websites www.htp.gov.in or www.echallan.org .
Polcie save 3 lives
The Lake police rescued two women and a man who tried to commit suicide by jumping into the Hussainsagar Lake on March 5 and 6. They were identified a Zareena Begum, D. Maheshwari and Ch. Raju. According to the police, both the women decided to end their lives after they were depressed due to some family issues.
Raju, the third person to be rescued in the last two days, decided to commit suicide after he left his wife as she was having an extra-marital affair. When she did not stop even after he asked her to stop all that, he tried to end his life, said a press note on Monday.
Student missing
A 13-year-old boy went missing from a Telangana Social Welfare School under the Hayathnagar police station (PS) limits on March 5. B. Ajay Kumar, a ninth standard student, left the hostel without intimation and was not to be found later. B. Srinaiah, a part-time teacher with the state-run institute lodged a complaint with the police stating the same on Monday. A case has been registered and the police are on the lookout for the missing student.
Counselling to drivers
The Rachakonda police conducted a ‘Drunken driving and de-addiction’ counselling session on Monday at the Traffic Training Institute, L.B. Nagar, for those who were caught driving under the influence of alcohol. The programme was held in coordination with the Amrutha Foundation, an NGO.
Out of 72 members who attended the session, Amrutha Foundation counselled 41 persons, that included one student, three repeat offenders, a private employee, 9 persons convicted for imprisonment and one person who was given community service for his offence. Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat warned drivers under his limits not to indulge in drunken driving.
