The Jubilee Hills police on Saturday registered criminal cases against two students of the Nalsar Law University and some employees of the TV 5 Telugu news channel following complaints lodged by one against the other.
A case was registered against employees of the TV5 channel after Nalsar student Dipankar Panth filed a complaint alleging that he and a woman student of the university were assaulted when they went to the channel office on Friday night. Mr. Panth maintained that some employees intervened when he was speaking with TV5 Editor A. Brahmananda Reddy and pulled him out.
He also claimed that they misbehaved with the woman student when she tried to resist their attack.
A case under IPC Section 354 (outraging the modesty of woman) and Section 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapon) was registered on his complaint.
In his complaint, Mr. Reddy said two Nalsar students barged into his room on Friday night and picked up a quarrel with him, asking him to sign some papers they had brought along with them. This was in connection with the news telecast by the channel, which painted women students from Nalsar as being drunk and indecently attired outside a pub in Banjara Hills on the night of April 12.
Mr. Reddy said the two students — a male and a female — tried to attack him, adding that they had also assaulted two reporters of the channel, who came to his rescue. He also accused the students of abusing him.
Based on his complaint, a case under IPC Section 447 (criminal trespass), Section 323 (assault) and Section 507 (criminal intimidation) were booked against the students.
