Tuition fee for category B medical seats in private medical colleges (which was Rs. 2.5 lakh) is now Rs. 9 lakh while tuition fee for NRI quota medical seats has been hiked from last year’s Rs. 5.5 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh.
The Telangana Government has, however, not tinkered with the tuition fee for students getting admitted in Category A (EAMCET category) medical seats, which, like last year, continues to remain at Rs. 60,000 per annum.
In all, there are 2,100 private medical seats (minority and non-minority) in Telangana out of which 735 seats would be filled by special entrance test, 315 medical seats will fall under the NRI quota while the remaining medical seats will fall under the EAMCET quota.
Based on the new entrance examination (MCET), 35 per cent of the private medical seats will be filled by a committee, which will be constituted by TPMDCMA. The committee will consist of members from the State Government and Health University while the post of the Convenor for MCET will be from the TPMDCMA. The MCET is expected to be a countrywide entrance examination that will be conducted by a third party agency and the admission process for these seats should be completed within the time frame notified by Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences and Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, Warangal.
According to sources, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is apparently the front-runner for the position of third party agency that will conduct MCET all over the country.
