‘Uber’ popular taxi service of twin cities has been brought down to a sudden halt in Telangana State on Tuesday by its transport department, closely following the footsteps of the Delhi administration.
Days after an Uber taxi service driver allegedly raped a 25-year-old in Delhi, the TS government has made it clear that they will crack the whip on not just Uber, but also other similar services which leverage technology and operate without required permissions. According to the officials, Uber has not taken any required permissions from the state transport department.
“We have not issued any license for the Uber cabs to operate, they have all the while been operating illegally,” informed M. Jagadeeshwar, Transport Commissioner, Telangana. “Uber cabs enter into an informal engagement with the cab drivers and through mobile apps facilitate the services. They have a small stake and take no responsibility,” he said.
The Transport Commissioner also warned the public not to use the services and conveyed that they will be liable for legal action if they do so. “Our officials will keep an eye on such taxi services and take action against them if required,” he added.
