The unique products and cuisine of Telangana can be marketed globally with the help of good packaging and e-commerce tools, observed Telangana IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao. He stressed the need for breakthroughs for enhancing the shelf life of delicacies like ‘biryani’ to reach United States or other far off areas.
“Hyderabadi Biryani, Haleem, Nirmal Handicrafts, silver filigree of Karimnagar, Pembarthi metal craft from Warangal offer a huge potential and challenge for the packaging industry. These products are exclusive to Hyderabad and Telangana and we must study on how new packaging technology can be used for these products. We can take the help of e-commerce sites also to market them,” he said.
He was speaking at the inaugural session of the national summit on ‘Packaging for tomorrow’ organised by Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) on Thursday. About 250 delegates from across the country will participate in the two-day event.
Mr. Rao also appealed to the IIP members and corporates to work with the government in recycling packaging material under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Speaking on the sidelines of the summit, he informed that the food processing park project helmed by ITC group is still in discussion stage and was hopeful of bagging the project.
He also pointed out that quick approval was given to ‘ITC Kohinoor’, a five-star hotel coming up at Madhapur at a cost of Rs. 700 crore. N.C. Saha, Director, IIP informed that he was confident that the Union Commerce will accept the proposal to start a degree course at their Mumbai campus by 2016.
