The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy demanded the release of MRPS founder chief Manda Krishna Madiga, saying his detention was an open violation of the fundamental right to freedom of speech.

In a statement on Thursday, Mr. Reddy slammed Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao for suppressing the agitation by Mr. Krishna Madiga seeking categorisation of Scheduled Castes. He reminded that when an MRPS activist Bharathi died during a protest at Hyderabad Collectorate on November 6, the CM had assured to take an all-party delegation to Delhi.

Even after two months, KCR did nothing to resolve the issue, he said.

He said, by refusing to permit any kind of agitation by MRPS, the TRS government is working against the spirit of democracy and alleged ill-treatment of Mr. Krishna Madiga, who has been fighting for SC categorisation for the last 23 years.
