As a prelude to the proposed indefinite fast by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao towards the end of this month, party leaders chose Medak district as a platform to whip up the separate Telangana and related issues.
In tune with KCR’s slogan of Andhrawale bhago, Telanganawale jago, former legislators S. Ramalinga Reddy, M. Padma Devender Reddy and party secretary K. Yadagiri Reddy staged a dharna at Papannapet on Monday demanding return of the lands occupied by migrants from Andhra region ages ago. The TRS leaders were actually in the process of gathering information about lands occupied by Andhra migrants at Lakshminagar and Kothapalli in Papannapet mandal.
According to sources, migrants had purchased assigned lands from the beneficiaries alongside the Fathenahar canal despite the fact that such a transaction was illegal. The TRS leaders alleged that around 800 acres have been occupied in survey nos.343 and 361. In addition to purchasing assigned lands, the migrants also occupied around 640 acres of government land. There are about 150 migrant families living in and around Papannapet who claim to have purchased the lands from the beneficiaries long ago.
The TRS leaders submitted an application under Right to Information Act to Tahsildar Rajaiah seeking details on assigned/government lands presently occupied by other than beneficiaries. They were earlier reported to have been directed by Mr. K. Chandrasekhar Rao to stage a demonstration then and there. The TRS leaders are now planning to stay a little longer at Papannapet. “We will continue the agitation till the occupied lands are vacated,” Mr. Ramalinga Reddy said. Some more MLAs propose to throw their weight behind them.
