TRS a puppet in MIM hands: BJP

September 16, 2014 11:08 pm | Updated October 05, 2016 07:49 pm IST - Hyderabad:

The BJP accused Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao of going back on his promise of celebrating Telangana Liberation Day on Wednesday out of fear of hurting his Majlis ally.

The TRS has become a ‘puppet’ in the hands of the Majlis and is treading the same path which the previous Congress government did, said BJP president, G. Kishan Reddy.

The Maharashtra government observes the day as ‘Mukti Sangam Diwas’ on liberation of its seven districts from the Nizam rule and the Karnataka government does the same on liberation of its four districts. “Why can’t the Telangana government do the same,” asked Mr. Reddy and said his party would come to power in 2019 in Telangana and it would officially celebrate September 17.

Mr. Reddy told presspersons here on Tuesday that the BJP would celebrate the day in all the ten districts of the State. In Hyderabad, the party will hoist the national flag on Golconda Fort. “I don’t think we need permission for that,” he said.

Celebration of the liberation day was not against any religion or party. It has to do with the self respect of people who suffered under the ‘tyrannical rule’ of the Nizam. He recalled how Shoebullah Khan, a journalist, raised the banner of revolt and was killed for his bold writings. Those who fought against the Nizam are getting pensions from the State and Central government. “Will KCR stop them,” the BJP leader asked.
