Former Prime Minister’s 96th birth anniversary celebrated

People from different walks of life and political leaders of different hues paid glorious tributes to late Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao on his 96th birth anniversary.

P eople started visiting the PV Ghat here on Necklace Road right from Wednesday morning, paid their respects at the memorial, and participated in several activities that were organised.

Special prayers were rendered by those from different religions and singing of bhajans continued for some time.

On behalf of the Telangana government, Ministers Naini Narsimha Reddy (Home) and Talasani Srinivas Yadav (Cinematography) and Adviser to government K.V. Ramanachary paid floral tributes. Congress leaders who participated in the celebrations included Ponnala Laxmaiah, former Governor of Tamil Nadu K. Rosaiah, and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly K. Jana Reddy. The Bharatiya Janata Party was represented by its State president K. Laxman. People from different walks of life garlanded the statue of late Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao on his 91st jayanthi here on Wednesday.

In Warangal, large number of people gathered at the statue of the former Prime Minister near Hanamkonda Bus Stand and took part in the celebrations. District Collector K. Amrapali, Rajya Sabha member Capt. V. Laxmikantha Rao, MLA V. Satish, academics and general public paid rich tributes to the late leader.

The native place of the former Prime Minister, Vangara village that now comes under Warangal urban district, would be developed into a model village, the Collector said and noted that the village had secured several awards in the past.

Mr. V. Satish described PV as a great economic reformer. The Jayanthi celebrations were also held at Vangara village.
