The State government officially celebrated the 190{+t}{+h}birthday of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule at Ravindra Bharathi, at a function that was attended by Minister for Backward Classes Welfare Jogu Ramanna.

Others present included Telangana Legislative Council chairman K. Swamy Goud, Rajya Sabha MP V. Hanumantha Rao, BJP Telangana State unit president and the party’s Floor Leader in the Assembly K. Laxman and TDP MLA R. Krishnaiah. A souvenir was also released on the occasion.

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee paid rich tributes to the legendary social reformer. At a function, president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy also utilised the occasion to accuse the TRS government of neglecting the welfare of BCs. “Not a single promise made during the elections has been honoured,” he pointed out, recalling that the most important among the promises included 33 per cent reservation for BCs in elected bodies.

The TPCC chief said that ensuring the growth and development of BCs in the State would form a real tribute to Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and assured that the Congress party would expose and fight against the anti-BC policies of TRS government.

The YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, party MLAs and senior leaders paid their tributes too. Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy garlanded a portrait of Phule at the party’s Lotus Pond office.
