Tribal advisory council okays Pranahita-Chevella project

The maiden meeting of the Telangana State Tribes Advisory Council under the chairmanship of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has approved the Pranahita - Chevella irrigation project to be taken up by the State Government.

The clearance was given as clause 4 (2) of Schedule V of the Constitution makes it mandatory for State Governments to seek advice of tribes advisory councils before they give consent for irrigation projects.

Sources said the meeting, which was attended by two MPs and nearly a dozen MLAs cutting across party lines, also discussed issues concerning tribal development. G. Nagesh and A. Sitaram Naik, both TRS MPs, and MLAs Rekha Naik, Kova Laxmi, Ravindra Naik, Shankar Naik, Madanlal and Korem Kanakaiah were among those present.

After lunch, the Chief Minister is schedule to leave for National Academy of Construction at Hi-Tech city for further meetings with officials.
