Transgressions, a work of fiction with a storyline that promises to move at a ‘searing pace between India and Paris keeping the reader on tenterhooks till the last page’, authored by The Hindu’s Paris-based Europe Correspondent, Vaiju Naravane was released on Friday. The book begins with the suicide of an Indian fashion designer Kranti in Paris and subsequently tells the story of how the designer got into that condition.
The author on Friday participated in a book release function and also was part of a discussion about the book with Professor, Political Sciences, UoH, Jyotirmaya Sharma, in a programme organised by Alliance Francaise. The book essentially charts the life of Kranti, the fashion designer, who stages her own death in an apartment in Paris.
A brief description: “Kranti leaves behind her diaries and paintings, and bequeaths her entire estate to her French partner, Robert-Pierre. As he tries to make sense of her death, his own life begins to unravel. Meanwhile, Kranti’s sister, Shanti reaches Paris to contest the will, unaware that Robert-Pierre has unearthed her family’s long-concealed past. What terrible secrets lie hidden in the pages of Kranti’s notebooks? Did they drive her to take her own life? And how will things change for Robert-Pierre after Shanti’s arrival? ”.
