Trains stranded on GT route

June 20, 2017 01:05 am | Updated 01:08 am IST - PEDDAPALLI

The train services on the busy Grand Trunk (GT) route between Kazipet and Balharshah railway stations were disrupted for more than two hours as the signalling system was damaged in a lightning incident in Pothakapalli railway station limits of Odela mandal in the district on Monday. Following the rains, a thunderbolt struck the railway signalling system damaging it. As there was no signalling system, the railway authorities stopped the trains proceeding on either side at Peddapalli and Raghavapur railway stations causing serious inconvenience to the passengers for about two hours. The Swarna Jayanthi Express, AP Sampark Express, Kranthi Super Fast trains were stopped at Peddapalli railway station, and Bhagyanagar Express at Raghavapur railway station. The train services were restored on the route after the authorities rectified the signalling system on war-footing.
