Training aircraft crashes, pilot safe

Accident takes place 14 km from Air Force station

A training aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed half an hour after taking off from the Air Force station at Hakimpet here on Thursday.

Police said lone trainee pilot Aman Pandey on board Kiran aircraft escaped unhurt as he jumped off with the help of a parachute, sensing mechanical trouble during flight.

The aircraft crashed at an abandoned quarry of a stone crushing unit at Ankireddypally, 14 km from the Air Force station. The debris was completely burnt as the aircraft went up in flames as soon as it fell to the ground around 11.30 AM. Two helicopters of the Air Force station arrived after the crash and flew back Mr. Pandey.
