Traffic was badly hit on the main thoroughfares from the Chanchalguda jail to the Lotus Pond residence of Y.S Jaganmohan Reddy in Jubilee Hills on Tuesday as the rally organised by enthusiastic YSRC supporters inched its way for hours.
It took more than five hours for the rally to reach his residence making the evening peak hour traffic go haywire at Lakdikapul, Khairatabad, Punjagutta, Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills.
Hundreds of supporters of Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy gathered outside the Chanchalguda jail right from afternoon awaiting his release. The crowds swelled by 4 p.m. when he stepped out. As the convoy of 15 vehicles of the YSRC chief headed for Nalgonda crossroads, many marched behind the convoy while a few hundreds riding two-wheelers and some travelling in four-wheelers joined in.
It took more than an hour to cover the first two kilometres and the ever bustling Dilsukhnagar-Malakpet-Chaderghat stretch got choked as the rally entered the area.
Commuters going from Dilsukhnagar towards Koti got stuck behind the rally. The YSRC leader’s supporters were in no mood to listen to the requests of the traffic police not to choke the vehicular movement by adding more vehicles to the procession.
At one point in M.J. Market, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy got off his vehicle and shook hands with the locals who in turn showered flowers on him while the rally came to a halt for a while. It led to traffic gridlocks all around.
People around Lotus Pond area bore the brunt, especially those residing in the Press Photographers Colony, as they had to wait for over one-and-a-half hours in the traffic before they could reach home.
