Telangana Pradesh Congress President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and other leaders on Wednesday slammed the TRS Government and squarely blaming Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for forgetting to honour his pre-poll promises, reiterated that Vikarabad be made a separate district.

At a meeting in Vikarabad of Ranga Reddy district, Mr. Reddy said only if Vikarabad was made a district would people benefit from administration and governance. “The demand is genuine. Only after a scientific exercise the YSR Pranahita-Chevella Lift Irrigation Project was taken up, one that would bring to the plough an ayacut of 16 lakh acres and drinking water for the State capital. It is sad that Mr. Rao is trying to modify the project coverage to benefit Mahbubnagar district and thus depriving people of Ranga Reddy district,” he said.

Former Minister Sabita Indra Reddy pointed out that after a six decades-old struggle, AICC president Sonia Gandhi had ultimately given the go-ahead for a separate Telangana State. Apart from Vikarabad being made a district without any further delay, she wanted release of payments due to beneficiaries of Indiramma houses.

Former Union Minister Sarve Satyanarayana recalled that former Home Minister P. Indra Reddy had fought for a separate State and recalled that only the supreme sacrifice by about 1,200 youth had led to the formation of a separate Telangana State.
