Expressing concern over the illegal detention and torture of innocent villagers of Nerella and Jillella village of Rajanna-Sircilla district by the police, TPCC working president Mallu Batti Vikramarka demanded that the government order an inquiry by the High court sitting judge into the high-handedness of the police.
The TPCC working president along with Jagtial legislator T. Jeevan Reddy, former Minister D. Sridhar Babu, former Whip Arepalli Mohan, former MP Ponnam Prabhakar, and Karimnagar assembly segment in-charge Chalmeda Laxminarasimha Rao visited the prison ward in the government headquarters hospital in Karimnagar town on Wednesday and consoled the victims of police torture, who were undergoing treatment.
Talking to newsmen, the TPCC working president launched a scathing attack on the State government for terrorising the people by resorting to ‘police raj’. Condemning the inhuman treatment meted out to the villagers, which included Dalits, and causing serious injuries to them, he said that the police had not resorted to such third degree methods even against the naxalites.
He demanded that the government take action against the police officials responsible for such treatment to the people who opposed sand mafia.
Police Raj
This rather indicated that the government supported the sand mafia, he alleged, and added that more than 42 persons including 12 persons from Rajanna-Sircilla district had died in the hands of sand mafia in road accidents and other incidents.
