Total safety management in manufacturing units stressed

Director of factories Ch. Kishan stressed the need for implementation of total safety management system in the manufacturing units.

The total safety management system should encompass designing for safety so that accident prevention can be scheduled proactively. He was speaking at the inaugural of a two-day workshop on “Developing sustainable safety management in bulk drug manufacturing facilities” here on Thursday. The event was jointly organised by National Safety Council and Factories Department and was attended by 150 delegates from bulk drug and intermediaries units in the State.

Mr. Kishan expressed concern that human error was a major contributing factor in most of the accidents and this mainly depended on the attitude of the personnel concerned.

Suven Life Sciences chairman and managing director Venkat Jasti stressed the need for creating safety consciousness among workers. Training programmes should be designed and organised to increase practical safety awareness from the grass root level.
