Despite being hampered by issues of land acquisition, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has speeded up the work on the 650-metre flyover at Tolichowki which, when completed, promises to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the busy stretch between Mehdipatnam and Gachibowli.
While work on the foundations and piers from the Rethibowli side has been going on, GHMC officials said work would pick up the pace once the land acquisition is completed.
CostThe project is being taken up at a cost of Rs. 45 crore. A part of the road stretch close to the main Tolichowki intersection has been barricaded to facilitate the works.
For the six-lane flyover with a unique curvature design in view of a place of worship bang in the middle of its path, 55 properties were being acquired.
“Compensation for some of these properties has already been paid while a few others have approached the courts. Once the land acquisition is over, we will fast-track the works,” an official said.
GHMC Engineer-in-Chief R. Dhan Singh said that nine piers had been raised and work on nine others on the Mehdipatnam side was being taken up.
On the other hand, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has to shift its pipelines for the flyover work, for which the GHMC has paid the Water Board Rs. 4 crore.
“The flyover will ease the traffic chaos and we will see to it that motorists will not be inconvenienced during the works,” added an official.
