Toilets, textbooks, uniforms in schools by June 15

Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari has said that steps are being taken to supply free text books, school uniform and provide functional toilets by June 15 in all government schools.

Replying to queries during the Question Hour in the Legislative Council here on Wednesday, Mr.Srihari said a grant of ₹101 crore was given for maintenance of toilets, sanitation and hygiene in the schools. The members should also take time to inspect schools and bring any lapses to the department’s notice.

Leader of the Opposition Mohd. Ali Shabbir said that the NREGS funds should be spent by March-end and the Minister should give instructions to legislators to give 20 % of funds for toilet construction. The Minister said the members were already requested to give 20 % of funds, another 20 % would come from Collectors and remaining 60 % from the Government. He said many schools do not have compound walls and they would also be taken up. Earlier, responding to another question, Mr.Srihari said 8,000 teachers would be recruited by June and because of relaxation in the eligibility rules, the TSPSC Telangana State Public Service Commission would have to give fresh notification, till then. In the meantime, contract and outsourced teachers would be appointed. till the regular and qualified teachers were recruited.
