The ‘Chalo Assembly’ programme called by the Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) and supported by various political parties on June 14 seeking a separate Telangana will be organised irrespective of the State government’s permission, said the TJAC chairman M. Kodandaram.
Speaking at a preparatory meeting for the programme organised by the city committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Tuesday, he said the government will have to face the wrath of Telangana people if it tried to create hurdles and such efforts would only further strengthen people’s aspiration to vote out the Congress government.
‘Telangana people vexed’
He recalled how Telangana people were vexed with the false promises of the Congress party and said it was time to show its place.
“We don’t believe in violence and we will once again show our resolve and strength through peaceful and democratic norms,” he said.
People have lost confidence in the Congress and its delaying tactics on such a crucial issue has stalled the State’s development, felt the State BJP president G. Kishen Reddy, former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya and other party leaders.
They reminded how people and employees defied the government orders to make success Sakala Janula Samme, Million March and the Maha Dharna at the Necklace road. They reflected the aspirations of Telangana people, but the government was turning a blind eye to the reality.
The city BJP president B. Venkata Reddy, who presided, accused the government of trying to suppress the movement using police force. But it should realise that it is the people who vote and not the police and no people movements can be suppressed using police force.
Meanwhile, Telangana Telugu Desam Forum is likely to extend support to ‘Chalo Assembly’ programme. A decision on whether to participate or hold a separate protest rally will be taken at a meeting of the Forum to be held tomorrow.
Forum leader Revuri Prakash Reddy told the press persons that the party has been supporting all the protest programmes though the TJAC has not been inviting them.
Sources said Telangana TDP MLAs discussed the issue with party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday, but could not come to a conclusion.
