For the scores of Hyderabadis, the dark canopy of clouds and rainfall in parts of the city, on Monday afternoon was a welcome change after weeks of sweltering heat.
And the vacationers left no stone unturned to make the most of the weather.
After weeks of deserted afternoons, cloth-sellers and vendors in Paradise, Begum Bazar, Parklane saw a swell in the number of shoppers. “Since noon, the heat was slowly coming down and we saw quite a few people come out to shop,” said a visibly relieved Fazal, a vendor at Paradise.
Others like K. Vanaja, a teacher and her daughter Vasuda, used the opportunity to shop for upcoming family functions. “Since two weeks we have been putting off shopping due to the horrible weather. Finally, with the weather softening, we dared to step out,” said Ms. Vanaja.
Usual phenomenon
Met officials said the change in weather was expected and usual. “Thunderstorm development is usual in summers. Usually such activity is experienced in afternoons or early in the morning. However, this time there was a gap between the summer rains,” said a Met official, forecasting similar weather on Tuesday too.
The sudden spell of rain brought down the temperatures with Monday registering a maximum of 38.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.7 degrees Celsius.
The temperature may hover around 40 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, the Met office informed.
