A quarrel over a rented bicycle resulted in the murder of a 32-year-old man in Golconda on Wednesday.

The victim, Nihal Khan, a carpenter, and his brother Junaid Khan, were travelling in an autorickshaw when they were waylaid and attacked. Police said a boy working in the aluminium container workshop managed by Junaid had taken a bicycle on rent from Yaseen cycle-taxi, at Bada Bazaar in Golconda on Sunday.

On Thursday, Yaseen, went to Junaid’s house in Dhankota area of Golconda and demanded that the cycle be returned. Junaid, however, maintained that it had been returned the same day. An argument ensued that led to fisticuffs. Nihal who intervened, was also manhandled.

Later, the brothers, accompanied by their mother were en route to the Golconda police station to lodge a complaint against Yaseen when they were attacked with knives and lathis, resulting in serious injuries.

The duo was shifted to the Golconda Area Hospital for treatment where Nihal died, the police said.
