A speeding lorry crushed to death three of a family who were on their way to the Balkampet temple on Sunday.
Forty-five-year-old Narsimhulu from Ramachandrapuram of Patancheru, along with his wife Lalitha, 38, and daughter Sirisha, 15, started on his two-wheeler for the temple. He had purchased a house and wanted to offer special prayers to the deity at Balkampet.
They reached Vivekanandanagar Arch on Kukatpally main road around 7.15 a.m. “A lorry laden with cement bags hit them from behind near Metro Rail pillar no. KPH-18B,” Kukatpally Inspector K. Purushotham said. Investigators were yet to get full details of the accident occurred.
“There was only one eyewitness, motorist Matsyagiri. He too was hit by the lorry from the side,” the investigators said. He escaped with minor injuries.
The eye-witness told the police that the lorry hit them, throwing them off the bike, and ran over them even as they were yet to rise. Death was instant for the three. The driver fled the spot, abandoning the lorry.
There are no surveillance cameras close to the accident spot.
