Three of a family died and two others sustained injuries when the wall of government college collapsed on their asbestos sheet-roofed house near Mehdipatnam here on Thursday. The victims were Maha Laxmi (22), her son Janardhan(7) and mother-in-law Parvathamma. Maha Laxmi’s elder son Srihari (10) and husband Mavullu(28) who sustained injuries were shifted to Osmania General Hospital.

Their single-room house was abutting the compound wall of the Comprehensive College of Education at Kotammabasthi in Vijayanagar colony. The nearly 15-feet-high wall collapsed around 5.30 a.m. while the family members were asleep.

“The old wall apparently got weakened due to seepage of water following continuous rains for the past two days including the previous night,” the police said.

Humayunnagar police rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to Osmania hospital morgue for conducting autopsy. The GHMC authorities too arrived at the spot and started removing the debris.
